UK Study Routes (Current)
Student visa
For ages 16+ at a licensed Student sponsor. Requires CAS, funds, English, and payment of the application fee and IHS for healthcare access.
Child Student
For ages 4–17 at an independent school. Evidence includes CAS, parental consent and funds meeting route rules.
Short-term study (English)
For English language courses of 6–11 months. Other short courses typically use the Standard Visitor route.
Graduate route
Post-study work for eligible UK graduates for a fixed period. Some later switch to skilled routes if they meet requirements.
Note: Legacy labels like Tier 4, Student Visitor and Doctoral Extension Scheme are no longer used.
Core Requirements (Student visa)
- CAS: Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies from a licensed sponsor.
- Funds: Tuition + maintenance held for the required period (28-day rule applies); format matters.
- English: IELTS/other accepted evidence, unless exempt.
- Documents: Passport, TB test (if applicable), academic transcripts, ATAS (where required).
- Payments: Application fee and Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS).

- Evidence clarity: Bank letters/statements must match format rules; names and amounts must align.
