Last reviewed 26 October 2026 against IRCC’s CRS criteria, the October 2026 backgrounder and the Express Entry rounds table.
Your Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score is a number out of 1,200 that ranks your Express Entry profile against everyone else in the pool. It is built from four blocks: core human capital (age, education, language, Canadian work experience), your spouse’s factors, skill transferability, and additional points such as a provincial nomination. For most people applying from Dubai or Abu Dhabi, the points that can still move are language, a second credential, French, a spouse’s test score and a nomination. From 3 November 2026 a qualifying job offer in a high-wage occupation can also add 50 to 100 points.
At a glance
| Block | Maximum (single) | Maximum (with accompanying spouse) |
|---|---|---|
| A. Core human capital | 500 | 460 |
| B. Spouse factors | not applicable | 40 |
| C. Skill transferability | 100 | 100 |
| D. Additional points | 600 | 600 |
| Total | 1,200 | 1,200 |
- A provincial or territorial nomination is worth 600 points on its own.
- Job offer points were removed in March 2025. From 3 November 2026 they return only for qualifying offers in high-wage occupations: 50, 70 or 100 points, with no LMIA needed.
- IRCC will recalculate every profile when the change takes effect, which could take up to two weeks, and will pause rounds while it does.
A. Core human capital: where most points live
You are scored “with spouse” only if your spouse or common-law partner is coming to Canada with you and is not a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
Age
| Age | Single | With spouse |
|---|---|---|
| 20 to 29 | 110 | 100 |
| 30 | 105 | 95 |
| 31 | 99 | 90 |
| 32 | 94 | 85 |
| 33 | 88 | 80 |
| 34 | 83 | 75 |
| 35 | 77 | 70 |
| 36 | 72 | 65 |
| 37 | 66 | 60 |
| 38 | 61 | 55 |
| 39 | 55 | 50 |
| 40 | 50 | 45 |
| 41 | 39 | 35 |
| 42 | 28 | 25 |
| 43 | 17 | 15 |
| 44 | 6 | 5 |
| 45 or older | 0 | 0 |
Age is counted on the day you are invited, so a profile loses points on each birthday after 29. If you are 30 to 34, the timing of your language test and ECA matters more than it seems.
Education
| Highest credential | Single | With spouse |
|---|---|---|
| Secondary school | 30 | 28 |
| One-year post-secondary | 90 | 84 |
| Two-year post-secondary | 98 | 91 |
| Bachelor’s or three-year-plus program | 120 | 112 |
| Two or more credentials, one of three years or more | 128 | 119 |
| Master’s or entry-to-practice professional degree | 135 | 126 |
| Doctorate | 150 | 140 |
Education gained outside Canada counts only through an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA), which must be less than five years old. To claim two or more credentials you need an ECA for each one.
First official language
Points are given per ability (reading, writing, speaking, listening) and added up.
| CLB level, per ability | Single | With spouse |
|---|---|---|
| CLB 4 or 5 | 6 | 6 |
| CLB 6 | 9 | 8 |
| CLB 7 | 17 | 16 |
| CLB 8 | 23 | 22 |
| CLB 9 | 31 | 29 |
| CLB 10 or higher | 34 | 32 |
Moving all four abilities from CLB 7 to CLB 9 adds 56 points here (single), before the skill transferability gains in block C. That is why a retake is so often the first thing we look at.
A second official language adds 1 point per ability at CLB 5 or 6, 3 at CLB 7 or 8 and 6 at CLB 9 or higher, up to 24 points single or 22 with a spouse.
Canadian work experience
| Years in Canada | Single | With spouse |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 40 | 35 |
| 2 | 53 | 46 |
| 3 | 64 | 56 |
| 4 | 72 | 63 |
| 5 or more | 80 | 70 |
Work done in the UAE does not count here. It earns points in block C instead.
B. Spouse factors
An accompanying spouse can add up to 10 points for education, 20 for language and 10 for Canadian work experience. For many UAE couples the easiest points in the whole profile come from the spouse sitting one English test.
C. Skill transferability
Capped at 100 points in total, with each of the combinations below capped at 50.
- Education with language: a post-secondary credential plus strong language scores. With CLB 7 or more in every ability and at least one under 9, the values are 13 or 25; with CLB 9 or more in every ability, 25 or 50.
- Foreign work experience with language: one to two years of foreign skilled work earns 13 (CLB 7+, one under 9) or 25 (CLB 9+); three years or more earns 25 or 50.
- Education or foreign work with Canadian work experience: the same idea, paired with Canadian experience.
- Certificate of qualification (trades) with language: 25 with CLB 5+ and one ability under 7, 50 with CLB 7+ in all four.
This block is where a UAE professional with three years of experience and a CLB 9 result picks up the most points they did not know they had.
D. Additional points
| Factor | Points |
|---|---|
| Provincial or territorial nomination | 600 |
| French at NCLC 7+ in all four abilities, with CLB 5+ in English | 50 |
| French at NCLC 7+, with CLB 4 or lower in English or no English test | 25 |
| Canadian post-secondary credential, three years or longer | 30 |
| Canadian post-secondary credential, one or two years | 15 |
| Brother or sister in Canada who is a citizen or permanent resident | 15 |
From 3 November 2026: job offer and high-wage experience points
IRCC removed job offer points in March 2025 because of fraud concerns around offers and LMIAs. Its October 2026 backgrounder sets out what replaces them from 3 November 2026:
| Qualifying job offer in a high-wage occupation | Points |
|---|---|
| Pays at least 2 times the median wage | 100 |
| At least 1.5 times | 70 |
| At least 1.3 times | 50 |
- The offer must generally be full-time and continuous for at least one year after you become a permanent resident.
- No Labour Market Impact Assessment is needed for the offer to earn these points.
- At least 12 months of Canadian work experience in a high-wage occupation adds 20, 40 or 70 points in addition to the normal points for its length, up to 150 combined.
- You receive the higher of the job offer points or the high-wage experience points, never both. The cap is 150 points single and 140 with a spouse.
- An officer must be satisfied the offer is genuine. A revoked offer stops counting.
- IRCC asks anyone holding a valid offer to add it to their profile before 3 November. Every profile will be recalculated, which could take up to two weeks, and rounds pause while that happens.
For a UAE applicant without a Canadian employer, the grid you are scored on is otherwise unchanged. Be wary of anyone offering to sell a Canadian job offer; officers check that the offer is genuine.
What score is enough in 2026?
There is no minimum CRS score. Each round sets its own cut-off. IRCC has held no general (all-program) round in 2026, so the useful comparison is by round type. The most recent rounds before this review:
| Date (2026) | Round type | Invitations | Lowest CRS invited |
|---|---|---|---|
| 26 October | Provincial Nominee Program | 792 | 761 |
| 16 October | French-language proficiency | 5,000 | 435 |
| 15 October | Canadian Experience Class | 2,500 | 519 |
| 13 October | Provincial Nominee Program | 752 | 772 |
| 1 October | Trade occupations | 3,500 | 476 |
On 25 October 2026 the pool held 228,724 profiles, and about 71,000 of them scored between 451 and 500. Since August, French-language rounds have cut off between 382 and 435. A profile in the 400s without French, a nomination or a category occupation is unlikely to be reached at present. Our post on category-based draws explains each category.
How to raise your score from the UAE
- Retake the language test, aiming for CLB 9 in every ability. It lifts block A and unlocks the 50-point levels in block C. Check our test comparison for which tests IRCC accepts; IELTS One Skill Retake is not accepted for Express Entry.
- Learn French to NCLC 7. It is a long project, but it adds up to 50 points and opens the French rounds.
- Get every credential assessed. A second ECA can move you from 120 to 128 education points, and a master’s to 135.
- Have your spouse take a language test. Up to 20 points, often for one sitting.
- Apply to provinces actively. A nomination adds 600. Our guide to PNPs without a job offer lists which ones still nominate from abroad.
- Keep working. Moving from two to three years of foreign skilled experience raises the foreign-experience combination in block C.
- Check the NOC code you claim. Your duties, not your title, decide whether you fit a category.
Frequently asked questions
What is a CRS score calculator, and is it accurate?
IRCC’s own CRS tool is a questionnaire. It does not check documents, so its result is only as good as your answers. Use real test scores and an issued ECA, not hoped-for numbers. Scores calculated before 3 November 2026 may change when IRCC recalculates profiles.
Is there a minimum CRS score to enter the pool?
No. You need to meet the minimum requirements of a program (for example the Federal Skilled Worker 67-point grid). The CRS only ranks you once you are in.
Does a job offer add CRS points?
Not until 3 November 2026. From that date, only qualifying offers in high-wage occupations add points: 50, 70 or 100, with no LMIA required.
How many points does a provincial nomination add?
600, through an Express Entry-linked provincial stream.
Does applying with my spouse lower my score?
It can lower block A slightly, but your spouse can add up to 40 points in block B. Run both versions with real numbers before deciding.
How long is a language test valid for Express Entry?
Results must be less than two years old when you enter the pool and when you apply.
