The relationship between the sponsor and their loved ones must be corresponding to one of the following classes:
• Spouse: He/she is at least 18 years old and is legally married to you.
• Common-law partner: He/she is at least 18 years old, and has been living with you for a minimum of 12 months without a longer interrupted period.
• Conjugal partner: He/she is at least 18 years old and is in a genuine relationship with you for a minimum of 12 months but could not marry you for reasons beyond your control.
Canada’s government recognizes same-sex marriages but you are required to comply with eligibility standards of Immigration, refugees and citizenship in Canada.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERION OF IRCC:
You can sponsor your partner if:
• You are an adult (18 years old).
• You are a citizen of Canada or permanent resident of Canada.
• You prove that you plan to live in Canada with the sponsored person once the immigration process is successful.
• You prove your disability is the only reason behind acquiring social assistance. (applicable to those who receive social assistance)
• You are financially capable of providing the basic needs to the sponsored person.
STEPS TO APPLY FOR CANADA IMMIGRATION:
To sponsor your loved one for immigration you are required to submit two applications at a time:
• Sponsorship application
• Permanent residency application
SUBMISSION OF SPONSORSHIP APPLICATION
Check out the following steps to successfully approach permanent residency with your loved one.
Step 1: Receive your application package from IRCC.
Step 2: Payment of application fees which includes processing fees, the right of permanent residence fee, and biometrics fee. The mode of payment remains online on IRCC’s official website.
Step 3: Recheck your document and mail the correct application to IRCC.
Now you have to be patient until your application is processed which is generally occurs within 12 months of application.
AFTER COMPLETION OF APPLICATION
Each couple is needed to continue fulfilling certain obligations after successful permanent residency:
• The sponsor is financially responsible for the sponsored person for three years living with them.
• Sponsors are not allowed to sponsor someone else for five years after they have sponsored someone.
