How to migrate to Canada: 5 Options for Migrating to Canada in 2022
1. Express Entry Program
This is the most popular immigration program that immigrants prefer to enter Canada. Canada’s immigration program, which lets skilled workers live and work in Canada, is through Express Entry. The Express Entry system works on a point system. The more points you get, the better, but it’s most important to have a high language score, at least one year of skilled work experience, post-secondary education, and to be between 20 and 29. Having French language proficiency, a sibling in Canada, or a Canadian job offer can boost your score. Under the express entry program, you can apply under:
- Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP)
- The Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP)
- The Canadian Experience Class (CEC)
Express Entry will allow provinces and territories to use the system to recruit candidates for their Provincial Nominee Programs.
The 6 months processing time has been delayed due to the COVID-19 outbreak, but we encourage you to continue applying. IRCC holds bi-weekly draws to select among the high-scoring candidates from the Express Entry pool. Express Entry allows you to migrate to Canada to any province or territory, except Quebec.
2. Family Class Sponsorship
Family reunification is one of Canada’s core values. Canadian families can permanently sponsor their spouses, children, parents, grandparents and adult relatives. To qualify to sponsor your relative, you must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident. You need to prove the financial support of your family. The applicant must pass the medical exam and submit a clean criminal record. You can sponsor your spouse and children under 22 (there are some exceptions). Sponsoring your parents or grandparents isn’t possible at this time. But you can bring them to Canada under the Super Visa Category.
3. The Provincial Nominee Programs (PNP)
The PNP route is becoming increasingly popular for immigrating to Canada. People who don’t qualify for Express Entry or want extra points can apply for the PNP. Other than Nunavut and Quebec, every province and territory has a PNP that can lead to a fast track entry. The provinces and territories tailor these programs to suit their own needs.
Most candidates first apply to the province or territory, then to the federal government if they get nominated for the PNP.
There are two categories of PNPs:
- Enhanced PNPs – selects the candidates from the draws of Express Entry pool.
- Express Entry independent PNPs – operate independently for the selection of candidates
However, applicants in the PNP category generally have to live in the province they’re applying to for at least a year after they arrive. PNPs also need a job offer from a Canadian employer. Here’s a list of all the active PNPs for your reference:
- Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP)
- Quebec Skilled Workers Program (QSWP)
- Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP)
- Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP)
- Yukon Nominee Program (YNP)
- Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP)
- British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BCPNP)
- Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Nominee Program (NLPNP)
- New Brunswick Provincial Nominee Program (NBPNP)
- Nova Scotia Provincial Nominee Program (NSPNP)
- Northwest Territories Nominee Program (NTNP)
- Prince Edward Island Provincial Nominee Program (PEI PNP)
If you receive an enhanced PNP nomination, you straight away get 600 points to your profile. This award is a big boost to your profile and will prime you to get an ITA for permanent residence or to migrate to Canada.
