It is open only to leaders or potential leaders in academia or research, arts and culture, or digital technology. The rules in Appendix Global Talent were updated on 3 August 2026 and the list of endorsing bodies on 1 July 2026, so anyone in the UAE considering this route should work from the current versions. This guide sets out the two stages, the costs, and who from Dubai or Abu Dhabi has a realistic case.<\/p>\n<div class=\"cosmos-glance\">\n<h3>At a glance<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Two stages: endorsement by a UK endorsing body, then the visa itself (unless you hold a listed prestigious prize).<\/li>\n<li>Three fields only: academia or research, arts and culture, and digital technology. You must be 18 or over.<\/li>\n<li>No sponsor, no job offer, no minimum salary and no English test at the visa stage (gov.uk, as at August 2026).<\/li>\n<li>Fee \u00a3766 (\u00a3561 at endorsement plus \u00a3205 at the visa stage), plus the healthcare surcharge, usually \u00a31,035 per person per year.<\/li>\n<li>Settlement after 3 years for exceptional talent, prize winners and research endorsements; 5 years for exceptional promise in tech or the arts.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<h2>How the two-stage process works<\/h2>\n<p>The Immigration Rules describe Global Talent as &#8220;a two-part application process&#8221;. The first part is endorsement. You apply to the Home Office, which passes your file to the UK organisation responsible for your field. That body decides whether you qualify as a leader (exceptional talent) or a potential leader (exceptional promise).<\/p>\n<p>The second part is the visa. You must apply within 3 months of receiving the endorsement letter, and the endorsement must not have been withdrawn in the meantime. The earliest you can apply is 3 months before you intend to travel. A decision from outside the UK usually takes 3 weeks; from inside the UK it usually takes 8 weeks, and a paid faster decision may be available.<\/p>\n<p>It is possible to lodge the endorsement and visa applications together. Gov.uk warns that the visa application may be rejected if the endorsement is refused, so we suggest most UAE applicants wait for the letter before paying the second part of the fee.<\/p>\n<h2>Who endorses you, and the two levels<\/h2>\n<p>The gov.uk list of authorised endorsing bodies was updated on 1 July 2026 and names the organisations below. Tech Nation remains the body for digital technology. Under Appendix Global Talent, 3 continuous years in the UK is enough if the Royal Society, British Academy, Royal Academy of Engineering or UKRI endorsed you, or if Arts Council England or Tech Nation endorsed you as exceptional talent. Exceptional promise with Arts Council England or Tech Nation needs 5 years, and you must be at an early stage of your career to apply at that level.<\/p>\n<p>Researchers get the 2-week fast track if they hold an eligible fellowship, an eligible post at an approved UK institution, or a role on a UKRI-endorsed grant worth at least \u00a330,000 over a minimum of two years. Without one of those, peer review is open to active researchers with a PhD or equivalent research experience. No job offer is needed for peer review.<\/p>\n<p>We are often asked whether a citation count or publication tally decides an academic case. Peer review works from a CV capped at 3 single sides of A4 and from letters of recommendation, so the question that matters more in practice is which eminent person living in the UK will write for you.<\/p>\n<h2>The prestigious-prize route<\/h2>\n<p>If you are the named winner of a prize listed in Appendix Global Talent: Prestigious Prizes, the rules treat you as having exceptional talent and you skip endorsement altogether. The prize must appear on the gov.uk list; other awards from the same institution do not qualify. The lists were last updated on 21 April 2026 and cover all three fields. Prize winners pay the full \u00a3766 at the visa stage and can settle after 3 years. The Home Office asks for evidence of the win only if it cannot confirm it from public information.<\/p>\n<h2>What it costs and what it gives you<\/h2>\n<p>The application fee is \u00a3766. With an endorsement it is paid in two parts: \u00a3561 with the endorsement application and \u00a3205 with the visa. Each partner or child pays \u00a3766 as well. Add the immigration health surcharge, which gov.uk lists at \u00a31,035 per year for most applicants and \u00a3776 per year for under-18s. A single applicant choosing a 5-year visa should budget \u00a3766 plus \u00a35,175 in surcharge.<\/p>\n<p>Once granted, the visa lets you work as an employee, be self-employed and act as a company director. You can change or stop your job without telling the Home Office. There are no language or minimum salary eligibility requirements. You choose a length of up to 5 years, and each extension can last 1 to 5 years with no limit on how many times you extend, provided you earned money in your field in the UK and the endorsing body has not withdrawn its approval. An extension costs \u00a3766. You cannot claim most public funds, and you cannot work as a sportsperson.<\/p>\n<p>Your spouse, civil partner, or partner of at least 2 years, and children under 18, can apply as dependants. They can work (except as a sportsperson or coach) and study, and can apply to settle after 5 years in the UK.<\/p>\n<h2>Global Talent vs Skilled Worker<\/h2>\n<p>Most UAE professionals who ask us about Global Talent are also considering the <a href=\"https:\/\/cosmosimmigration.com\/uk-skilled-worker-visa\">Skilled Worker visa<\/a>, so a side-by-side comparison is useful. Skilled Worker admits far more people, but your permission is tied to the sponsoring employer and a change of job means applying to update the visa. Global Talent admits fewer people and places no such condition on where or whether you work. The reason is usually a mismatch between seniority and recognition. Being senior describes your position inside a company. Being recognised by the field describes what people outside it say about your work. Endorsing bodies test the second, and a history of promotions does not answer it.<\/p>\n<p>Evidence that reaches people outside your own employer is what counts towards that second question. A job title on its own does not.<\/p>\n<h3>Profiles that tend to fit<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Senior engineers, data scientists and product leaders in UAE fintech, AI, gaming or cyber security firms whose work is known outside their company. Tech Nation also accepts business applicants with commercial, investment or product backgrounds.<\/li>\n<li>Academics and researchers with a PhD (or equivalent) at UAE universities, especially those who can secure an eligible UK fellowship, post or UKRI-funded grant.<\/li>\n<li>Architects, designers, and fashion, film, television or performing-arts professionals with a substantial track record in at least 2 countries (exceptional talent), or a developing track record in 1 or more countries at an early career stage (exceptional promise).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Profiles that usually do not<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Capable mid-career professionals whose achievements sit inside one employer, with no public record of recognition.<\/li>\n<li>People whose discipline no endorsing body covers. Gov.uk warns that &#8220;it may be that your speciality cannot currently be assessed&#8221;.<\/li>\n<li>Anyone treating it as a general relocation visa. See the other routes on our <a href=\"https:\/\/cosmosimmigration.com\/uk\">UK page<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>The evidence pack<\/h3>\n<p>For digital technology, Appendix Global Talent requires a CV covering your career and publication history, 3 dated letters of recommendation from 3 different well-established individuals who have known your work for 12 months or more, and at least 2 pieces of evidence against each of 2 of the four criteria: innovation, recognition beyond your occupation, significant contributions, or academic contributions. You must also disclose any business you founded or led in the last 5 years.<\/p>\n<p>For arts and architecture, Arts Council England asks for 3 letters (2 from established organisations, at least one UK-based), up to 10 single pieces of evidence, each 2 sides of A4 or less and from the last 5 years, and a CV. Academic peer review needs a CV of up to 3 sides and a letter from an eminent person living in the UK. Exceptional talent applicants add a second objective letter from an eminent person who is a senior member of a UK organisation. Gov.uk says no other evidence is needed for peer review.<\/p>\n<h2>From the UAE: what this means for you<\/h2>\n<p>Referees are the usual bottleneck. In our experience the hardest part of a UAE application is finding people who meet the definition in the rules, particularly the UK-based organisation the arts route requires and the eminent person living in the UK that academic peer review requires. Approaching them before anything else gives you a realistic sense of whether the case can be built at all.<\/p>\n<p>The document list at the visa stage is short: a valid passport or identity document, certified translations of anything not in English or Welsh, and written permission if you held a UK award or scholarship in the last year. The UAE does not appear on the gov.uk list of countries that require a tuberculosis test, so applicants from Dubai or Abu Dhabi do not need one. No degree attestation is listed for this visa.<\/p>\n<p>For timing, count the endorsement decision (2 to 8 weeks depending on the body), then the 3-week visa decision, then your own preparation time, which in practice takes longest. The visa must be applied for within 3 months of the endorsement letter, and we advise against resigning from a UAE job before that letter arrives. Researchers should note that time spent outside the UK doing research counts towards the 3-year settlement period.<\/p>\n<p>Appendix Global Talent, as updated on 3 August 2026, sets the English requirement for settlement at CEFR B1 in speaking and listening for applications made before 26 March 2027 and B2 for applications made on or after that date. You will also need to meet the Knowledge of Life in the UK requirement and show that you earned money in your field during your last period of permission.<\/p>\n<h2>Frequently asked questions<\/h2>\n<h3>Do I need a job offer to apply for the Global Talent visa?<\/h3>\n<p>No. Gov.uk states you do not need a job offer for the digital technology route, and academic peer review needs none either.<\/p>\n<h3>Can I apply from Dubai if I am not a UAE national?<\/h3>\n<p>Yes. Gov.uk allows you to apply from any country where you have permission to live for at least 6 months, which covers UAE residence visa holders.<\/p>\n<h3>What happens if my endorsement is refused?<\/h3>\n<p>You can request an endorsement review.
